Meet
Nathan! Our beloved
Guinea Pig
who is not ‘just’ a family pet... but more so a fully fledged totally
equal family member with his own unique (and often reckless)
personality.
Nathan is a gold agouti and white smoothcoat boar. He is very well natured and playful, and keeps us entertained for hours. We are very fortunate to him in our family. Before we adopted him he had been through quite a bit.............. |

He was
saved from this terrible situation by a caring young girl but, sadly
she couldn't keep him. He was taken to a local shelter where he was
cared for and treated for mild fungal infections.
He then made is way to a shelter near us. Then, he was adopted out several times, but returned to the shelter. This is often an unfortunate problem with guinea pigs. Many owners just don't know how or can't be bothered to care for their pet piggie properly. As a result many are dumped or returned to shelters only after a few months. Now, I know that you won't do this, but ... You really need to realize that guinea pigs are special animals that need to be cared for and loved. Maybe you can understand where I’m coming from here, but for us, Nathan plays a major role in the family! He has given our son many valuable learning experiences and instill values in him such as responsibility and understanding. You see Nathan is our son's first pet. Our son has the responsibility of taking care of Nathan such as feeding him and cleaning out his cage. These are things he loves to do. The two of them have become pretty much inseparable. But, as a parent, I also have to help. And you will, too. |

We didn’t know a thing about Guinea Pigs Before We Adopted Nathan....
Here’s where the story get’s interesting...
I don’t know about you... but pretty quickly I experienced overwhelming information-overload! And it seemed I
was more confused before I started...
Don’t get me wrong... I found a lot of great information, but it was spread out all over the place across so many
different websites --- PLUS --- it seemed a lot of the information out there was conflicting.
For example, many websites claimed that you couldn't house male guinea pigs (boars) together because they
would fight. Then I found a site saying it was a myth and that you could house boars together if you gave them
sufficent space.
I was also shocked to discover how suceptiable Guinea Pigs were to their in environment and of the many
mistakes first time owners make.
Here is just a short list of common mistakes first time owners make:

Not knowing the sex of their guinea pig when buying or adopting leading to unwanted pregnancies

Over feeding resulting in obesity
